Just Who Owns The Rights To The ‘Broken Hardy’ Names/Characters?
The Pro Wrestling Sheet has exclusively revealed that Matt Hardy may be facing a legal struggle if he plans on using the ‘Broken’ gimmick, as confusion reigns over who owns the character in the aftermath of the Hardys leaving Impact Wrestling.
Sources close to the situation have said that Matt Hardy’s current deal gives Impact the ability to profit off anything already filmed having to do with any character/gimmick used throughout the course of his Impact contract. However, once that is expired, he retains ownership of his name and characters.
But, Pro Wrestling Sheet sources within Impact Wrestling have informed them that this is not the case. Instead, they claim the current deal specifically states that their company owns all creations used within the company.
As has already been widely reported, the Hardy brothers decision to no re-sign with the company is because they felt dissed during the negotiations. It’s interesting to note that the Hardys don’t have a non-compete clause which means that could possibly show up in another company as soon as next week.
