Manchester United news: Luis Suarez last scored an away Champions League goal for Barcelona in 2015

The Barcelona and Uruguay striker arrives at Old Trafford for the Champions League quarter-final first leg having failed to score an away goal in the competition in 1,302 days or 1,508 minutes.

Suarez’s last Champions League away goal came in a 1-1 draw with Roma in September 2015.

He is yet to score in six European games this season, though he has set up three goals for his team-mates.

And although they set up a place in the last eight against United by beating Lyon 5-1, they were incredibly wasteful in their last-16 first leg encounter, failing to convert any of their 25 shots in France.

Speaking after that game, Barca manager Ernesto Valverde issued a staunch defence of his under-fire striker.

SUAREZ'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOAL RECORD AT BARCELONA

2018/19: No goals in six matches to date

2017/18: One goal in 10 matches

2016/17: Three goals in nine matches

2015/16: Eight goals in nine games

2014/15: Seven goals in 10 appearances

He said: “It doesn’t worry me. It would worry me if he wasn’t getting chances, which is what you ask for from a centre-forward.

“Even if he doesn’t have chances, he creates them for his team-mates. Opponents are frightened of him.

“Football is like that and strikers will have these streaks. The important thing is to have chances.”

On a serious note, Suarez is clearly a world class striker.

In LaLiga, the 32-year-old has scored 20 goals in 30 games, contributing six assists along the way.

Suarez certainly showed no signs of lacking bite in Barcelona’s 5-1 thumping of their arch-rivals Real Madrid back in October.
